Upgrading the ITI’s at Punjab

Skill Trainings at 14 Government Rehab Centres

Over the past year, we have successfully empowered 5,000 youth with job placements through industry-relevant skill training — transforming potential into meaningful livelihoods.

The Challenge Before Us

Unemployment

Youth joblessness (15–29 yrs) in Punjab’s urban areas rose to 14.9%

Female youth unemployment is alarmingly high at 21.7%; male youth at 12.8%.

A recent study estimates youth unemployment at over 26% in Punjab.

Employability crisis

Industries in Punjab report a shortage of skilled local manpower, despite vacancies on the other hand only 10% of youth with general education and 25% with technical education are job-ready.

Drug Addiction

There were 8.74 lakh drug addicts in the state; 2.62 lakh addicts were in government de-addiction centres; 6.12 lakh were in private centres.

Migration

In the realm of education, Punjab still ranks third in international student migration, with 2.62 lakh students pursuing studies overseas. Notably, around one lakh students departing Punjab annually seldom return, contributing to a demographic challenge. Post-migration, 70 percent of the state’s workforce originates from other regions, further underscoring the impact of immigration on Punjab’s demographics.

The Opportunity Before Us

New Opportunities

New job and entrepreneurship opportunities are emerging across Punjab, powered by skill development, startup support, and growing industries. It’s a promising time for youth to build their future here

De-Addiction

With Punjab spending ₹150 crore annually on de-addiction and rehabilitation, the ‘Yudh Nashiyan De Virudh’ campaign adopts a multi-pronged approach to skill and economically reintegrate rehabilitated youth through training and job placements.

Reverse Migration

Interestingly, after 75 years of widespread international migration, Punjab is now also witnessing a reverse migration and there are dozens of case studies to prove the phenomenon.
